Manuscript Search Kissena Park Press has now launched an all-out search for our first title, which is to be published in the fall of 2005. We are targeting the beginning of March ’05 to find our first author, provide him or her a generous advance, and fully support our chosen book with a full publicity and advertising campaign. We are genuinely interested in fostering creative talent, and are looking for authors with great ideas, not necessarily experienced, who can be nurtured over time. That’s the true spirit and heritage of the book publishing industry. And unlike many underfinanced small presses, we have the infrastructure and contacts to market these books properly and really develop the authors’ full potential in terms of rights sales, future books, cross-media and so much more. Submissions GuildlinesIt is very important that you follow our submission guidelines precisely. The new postal regulations intended to safeguard the mail has impacted our ability to receive and return submissions. We want all our prospective authors to have a response from us. We can only make that happen through your cooperation. The Post Office will discard or return mail that has no return address, is metered but mailed from a different location than the meter stamp or mailed improperly. If you do not follow these instructions precisely, we cannot guarantee you will receive a response. What We're Looking For: We are actively looking for established and new writers in a wide range of genres. We are especially interested in powerful stories in which the protagonist must learn how to shift their perspective on life in order to elevate him or herself both spiritually and intellectually, allowing for them to take on seemingly overwhelming challenges. We're particularly interested in commercial fiction, including thrillers, mysteries, children's, women's fiction, ethnic, science fiction, fantasy and general fiction. We are also interested in literary fiction as long as it has a strong narrative. We do accept unsolicited manuscripts and seriously consider all submissions, including first time writers. We do not accept submissions for short stories or screenplays How To Submit Your Work: For fiction, please submit a synopsis, the first three chapters (approximately 50 to 100 pages) and a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) via postal mail. For nonfiction, please submit a book proposal -- which should include an outline of the material, sample material, an author bio et cetera -- and a SASE. For Children's works, please send the complete manuscript, along with a SASE. For illustrators, please send a representative portfolio of your work -- color copies, no original artwork -- and a SASE. Please do not submit to us electronically. Email submissions will go unread. We do not respond to submissions that aren't accompanied by a SASE. We will not return any material unless a SASE accompanies the submission. Do not send personal checks, money orders or cash. Additionally, because of new postal regulations, we cannot use metered mail for returns. All self-addressed stamped envelopes must include stamps. SASE Due to new postal regulations, all self-addressed envelopes must follow these guidelines. Use postal stamps only. No metered mail. Envelopes must be addressed and include our address as the return address in the top left corner of the envelope. Use self-sealing envelopes. We prefer business-sized (#10) envelopes (and like sized envelopes) that will be used for our response only all submission material will be discarded. If you do want the return of the submission material, large mailing envelopes are acceptable. International Submissions: We welcome international submissions but can only respond on a limited basis. We do not return any material outside of the United States regardless of what arrangements are made for its return. We will answer if you include a standard business letter, properly stamped with U.S. stamps and a return address. U.S. stamps are available on the Internet and international submissions must go through the trouble of buying U.S. stamps and making sure their submissions contain the properly stamped letter for response. We do not respond to emails unless we want the project. Any submission made that does not conform to these protocols is discarded. Because of the large volume of submissions that we receive, we will only respond to those that follow the above guidelines. Submissions made that do not follow our protocol will be discarded.
